What Time Will You Be Home Tonight Momma?

There is something inherently heartbreaking about having to leave my Bear behind, if even for an eight hour work day.  Logic tells me that he’ll be fine – that he’ll sleep for most of the day curled up on my bed while simultaneously covering my sheets and duvets in layers upon layers of his fur.  Logic tells me that he’s nibbling on his leftover from breakfast and filling his bladder with water and then taking all his toys out of their basket and scattering them all over the living room floor – which could be interpreted as fun….if you squint….and look at it sideways…
Most people (including some dog owners) don’t always acknowledge the fact that while they’re out working, networking, socializing and simply living life, their dog is at home waiting for them.  It can be a little burdensome sometimes – events and outings must be planned in advance, with a great deal of consideration given to how much time Fido can spend at home alone before serious worry sets in (which usually leads to acting out – which usually leads to damage)…And really, how long can we seriously ask our dogs to hold their bladders and still be considered humane pet owners?

As pet-parents we need to remember that we have social circles and extended families.  We have workplaces and colleagues and whole circles of acquaintances.  When all is said and done, after all the doggy play dates and dog park friends, our pets only have us to rely on for their happiness and well-being.

  1. That's one reason that I like working from home. The dogs however are so spoiled that they are quick to act out, if I'm gone more than 5 hours, or so.

I've cut many a dinner, with the family, including the Holidays, short.

Everyone says that I wrap my world around my dogs but one must be honest with themselves. WE are the ones that chose to get a dog, not the other way around.

They're better off having us. We are the ones that consider them, over all others. We feed, sometimes clothe, play, train and protect them.

WE are their world, as well!

I enjoy your writing. Good posting.

    1. Both my wife and I do wrap our every day around our 4 dogs and for us that is the only way to do as long as we have them as our pets. I think you are doing a good job and your dog is thankfull for that for sure.

  2. In addition...It used to be that I did not want a dog.

Now I don't now what I'd do without my dogs.

They've been there thru the good and the bad, the happy and the sad.

I can't say that about most humans.

  3. love your post. I couldn't agree more. the good thing for me is that my husband gets out three hours before me so our dogs are alone 5 hrs. and I try to go home for lunch to spend at least an hour on the day with them. and when we go out of town, to grandma's house they go :)

  4. We never leave our dogs alone for longer then like 15 minutes. I do some work from home and my wife does most of her work from home. When we go somewhere my mom is dog-sitting our 4 dogs and we wouldn't do it any other way.
Great post as always. Pleasure to read it :)
